A report from Dubai

Cricket fans have always been captivated by India-Pakistan contests. Excitement spreads throughout the subcontinent whenever these two Asian titans are scheduled to square off. With the start of the ACC Rising Stars T20 tournament on November 14 in Doha, Qatar, the excitement has returned. The eagerly anticipated match between India and Pakistan is scheduled for Sunday, November 16.

There have been six iterations of this competition since it was first staged in 2013 as the Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Under the new “Rising Stars” title, the 2025 edition is the first to use the T20 format.

India U23 won the first competition in Singapore, and Afghanistan A won the title in Oman in 2023.
In past competitions, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have also won the trophy.

Eight teams are taking part this year:

Group A: Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and Afghanistan
Group B: Pakistan, Oman, India, and the UAE

Every team will play each of its three group rivals once. The final is set for November 23. The top two from each group will move on to the semifinals.
While full ICC members have sent their “A” squads, Hong Kong, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates have fielded their senior national teams.

The Rising Stars competition only consists of round-robin matches followed by knockout stages, however the group structure is comparable to the recent 2025 Asia Cup.

Current Gatherings

India and Pakistan have met multiple times in recent months. India’s senior squad won the Asia Cup in Dubai after defeating Pakistan in each of their three matches. The rivalry persisted in the ICC Women’s World Cup, when India emerged victorious after defeating South Africa in the final and Pakistan in the group stage.

Highlighting Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old batting star from India, is back in the spotlight. He made history this year by being the youngest player to play for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. In addition, he became the youngest and fastest Indian to strike a century in IPL history when he smashed a scorching 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans.
He also holds the record for the youngest and fastest century in ODI history in U19 cricket.

Pakistan Team

Mohammad Irfan Khan has been selected by Pakistan to lead the Rising Stars competition. Only three players on the team have senior international experience: pacer Ahmed Daniyal, spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, and Irfan. The remaining players have performed exceptionally well in the Pakistan Super League, U19 cricket, and domestic cricket.

Fans in Doha are in for another thrilling chapter of the India-Pakistan rivalry, as both countries play gifted young teams.
