According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Dolphins will cover a portion of Phillips’ prorated $13.25 million salary in order to complete the transaction.
Prior to Tuesday’s deadline, the Eagles had already been active, adding flexibility to their secondary by acquiring cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander last week.
But Phillips, a former first-round draft pick, can turn around a pass rush that has only managed 16 sacks in eight games. This season, veteran Brandon Graham even came out of retirement to support the team.

Phillips, 26, is in the last year of his rookie deal. This season, he has three sacks, all of which have occurred in the last five games. According to Next Gen Stats, he has also registered 20 pressures throughout that time.
Phillips was previously coached by Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in 2023 while he was employed for the Dolphins in the same capacity. Prior to being sidelined by a ruptured Achilles, Phillips had amassed 6½ sacks in eight games that season.
General Manager Chris Grier left the Dolphins on Friday, giving interim GM Champ Kelly the opportunity to trade important players before the deadline in an attempt to change the team’s 2-7 record.
